Educational Uses

If you wish to use material from Ten Ways to Pray in a course-pack, electronic or otherwise, or in other educational (i.e. conference, seminar) settings, please contact Dawn Duncan Harrell. In your request, please include the following information:

  • exactly what copyright material is to be used, including page numbers (if relevant) and word count
  • your institution’s name
  • name of venue (class, seminar, etc.) in which the copies will be distributed
  • number of copies to be made, proposed retail price, and date of intended use
  • your name, address, e-mail, and phone numbers

Use by Not-for-Profit Organizations

Dawn Duncan Harrell hereby grants churches, parachurch organizations, and other not-for-profit organizations permission to use material from Ten Ways to Pray copyrighted by Dawn Duncan Harrell in their Sunday bulletins, newsletters, and other short-term non-book publications free of charge within the following limits:

  • The paragraphs quoted must not amount to a complete chapter of Ten Ways to Pray or account for fifty percent (50%) of the total work in which it is quoted.
  • Notice of copyright must appear in the work as follows: “Ten Ways to Pray: A Short Guide to a Long History of Talking with God by Dawn Duncan Harrell, copyright 2014 by Dawn Duncan Harrell is used by permission. All rights are reserved.”

Dawn Duncan Harrell hereby grants churches, parachurch organizations, and other not-for-profit organizations permission to use entire chapters from Ten Ways to Pray copyrighted by Dawn Duncan Harrell as the sole material employed in a Bible study, small group, prayer meeting, or other not-for-profit spiritual-formation setting free of charge within the following limits:

  • No more than thirty percent (30%) or three (3) chapters/pdf files may be distributed before a copy of the whole book must be purchased for each participant. (Copies may be purchased for a nominal fee here.)
  • Notice of copyright must appear with each chapter as follows: “‘[Chapter Title: Chapter Subtitle]’ from Ten Ways to Pray: A Short Guide to a Long History of Talking with God by Dawn Duncan Harrell, copyright 2014 by Dawn Duncan Harrell is used by permission. All rights are reserved.”

Use in For-Profit Published Works

Ten Ways to Pray may be quoted and/or reprinted up to and inclusive of 250 words without express written permission of Dawn Duncan Harrell, provided the paragraphs quoted do not amount to a complete stand-alone (such as a Practice point or Consider question) from Ten Ways to Pray or account for fifty percent (50%) of the total work, individual chapter, or stand-alone in which they are quoted. Notice of copyright must appear on the title or copyright page of the work as follows: “Ten Ways to Pray: A Short Guide to a Long History of Talking with God by Dawn Duncan Harrell, copyright 2012 by Dawn Duncan Harrell. Used by permission. All rights reserved.”

If you are interested in reproducing or incorporating more than 250 words from Ten Ways to Pray, please contact Dawn Duncan Harrell. In your request, please include the following information:

  • exactly what copyright material is to be used, including page numbers (if relevant) and word count
  • proposed title of your work
  • your publisher’s name
  • format in which your work will be published (i.e. paperback, hardcover, electronic)
  • territory in which your work will be distributed (i.e. U.S., Canada, world)
  • print run, proposed retail price, and publication date
